Blog 1 PPMT, Other work from the drawing workshops I enjoyed

DSCF4140

This work was from the workshop Drawing Machines. Where we created a machine that drew for us, this meant that we had no control over how the lines would turn out. It was more of a randomly created art work instead of how we normally create work, where we carefully think out where every line/brushstroke will go to complete the work. Lots of fun!

This was from the workshop Objects in Space, As a group we had to create something out of readymade objects. After a few different ideas we found all these chairs and this trailer, it took some work to get them all to balance in, but i think i speak for the whole group when I say we were pleased with the result, and had some fun getting there. It was interesting to use already existing objects to create a totally new piece of work.

Blog Assignment 2 : Art and Globalism

This advert i think is another good example of globalism being used in an artistic way. Not only is it using cell phones and being showed on televisions and the internet, it also uses music and is something everyone with a phone can relate to. It’s also pretty well done!!! A good advertisement that really catches the target audience that it’s aimed for.

I choose these art works by Rita Angus that i saw at the Auckland City Art Gallery because they are not only a global issue but also a very personal issue. They are the result of her grief and struggle after a miscarriage.

The plaque next to these artworks in the gallery read this:

“Six months after her miscarriage, Rita Angus made a series of drawings of her naked body. This was an especially difficult time for Angus. She wrote to Douglas Lilburn, the father of her lost child:

‘I went to bed about ten, and I wept till midnight … I wept because of the weight of the crushing circumstances of my life (unnecessary), and I wept because of the waste of human beauty lying dead on battlefields, at the bottom of the sea, and the waste of lives of women like myself, but less fortunate, who cannot blossom into full womanhood. The cruelty that is in men and women!’”

It shows the very intimate details that a lot of women worldwide suffer with every year. With the statistics being quite high, if the first two weeks of pregnancy there is a 75% chance of miscarriage, quite often before the woman even knows they are pregnant. Then almost 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage within the first 12 weeks.

So to sum up this isn’t just a global issue but also a very common one, and Rita Angus choose to deal with it through her artwork.

These forms show the bare basic figure of humans. They show where the weight is being held by drawing them in differant positions.

her her her her

This is Roni Horns work ” her, her, her and her ” 2002 -03.  The photos are taken in a 1982 indoor swimming pool complex in Iceland. I love the repetition of the peep holes and the long never ending corridors.

This is what inspired my first piece of photography work

Irish Icon Pack

This is the Irish Icon Pack, i liked the stylised way in which its been created. You can tell they are defiantly computer generated but it still has that real feel to it, with the wood look on the box, and the shading. This is the second related image to my work from info graphics.

This image comes from the site : http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/03/06/35-really-incredible-free-icon-sets/
